Money bouquets in Malaysia: how the pricing actually works

A money bouquet arranges folded banknotes among flowers, so one gift is both a bouquet and cash. In Malaysia they turn up most at graduations, 21st birthdays and weddings, and they are popular for an obvious reason: cash is what the recipient wants, and a bouquet is what a photo needs.
The confusing part is the price. Here is how it actually works.
Two costs, not one
Every money bouquet has:
- The arrangement — the florist's work, the flowers, the wrap, the folding. This is what the listed price covers.
- The notes — the cash itself. This is yours.
Shops handle the second part in one of two ways. Some ask you to supply the notes, either by handing them over or transferring the amount so the shop can withdraw fresh ones. Others add the cash to your total and take it out of the payment. Neither is unusual; they are just different workflows.
This is the single thing to confirm before you order. A listing at RM 150 might mean "RM 150 for the arrangement, you bring the cash" or "RM 150 all-in with a small amount of cash inside" — and the difference is the whole gift.
What the arrangement costs

The high end is where the note count climbs — a bouquet built around 100 or 200 notes is mostly labour, because each note is folded individually.
Practical notes
- Note denomination matters more than total value. Twenty RM 10 notes look considerably more generous than two RM 100 notes, and cost less. This is why RM 1 and RM 5 notes are common in graduation bouquets.
- Fresh notes fold better. Worn notes crease badly and will not hold a shape. If you are supplying the cash, ask the bank for new ones.
- Say the occasion. A graduation money bouquet is usually paired with sunflowers or a graduation bear; a wedding one leans white and gold.
- Order ahead for convocation week. Folding takes time and campuses graduate in clusters.
Where it fits
If the recipient is a student or a new graduate, cash is genuinely the useful gift, and the bouquet is what makes it presentable enough to hand over in public. That is the whole appeal, and it is why the format keeps spreading.
